Nobody was injured when several gunshots were fired in the parking lot of 2 Bala Plaza in the 300 block of East City Avenue around 2:35 p.m Saturday, March 19, Lower Merion police said.

Responding officers spotted a black Dodge Durango speeding away from the scene and heading eastbound on I-76, prompting police to initiate a chase, they said.

Pennsylvania State Police troopers were able to stop the SUV at the Girard Avenue exit off the highway, they said.

The driver fled the scene on foot, while officers arrested the female passenger, who was found to be in possession of an illegal firearm, authorities said.

Police believe the incident started when the driver of the Dodge Durango got into an argument with another man in the parking lot before shots were fired. The second man was not on the scene when police arrived, they said.

Ballistic evidence was recovered from the scene.

The Lower Merion Police Department asks anyone with information on the incident to call 610-649-1000.
